Global Tracking RFID Tag Technology: An Asset Management Tool and a Human Tracking Tool?

October 19, 2012, Guangdong, China - Companies like Hopmax Technology are using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID Technology) to help companies manage their assets throughout the manufacturing and distribution infrastructure. This same technology has also been used on humans. A Florida company uses the RFID tags as medical devices in humans.

John Halamka, MD, co-author of the JAMIA study has one such tag implanted in his body '…...so that patients could make an informed choice…' in relation to "an emergency situation when verbal communication would not be possible for medical information on a patient".

In the business industry RFID technology is used for asset tracking with a UHF tag, RFID scanner and a RFID reader antenna. These tags are planted within the product and can be tracked by a portable RFID reader with electromagnetic waves. The RFID antenna receives these electromagnetic waves and converts them into digital data which is 'read-only' by the RFID scanners. Data capacity is currently 2KB, but future improvements are pending as to the data capacity of the tags.
