Thu, 18 Oct 2012 10:18:54 EST

Midland, MI - - Catherine Baase, M.D., chief health officer for The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW), was recognized today by the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) and the National Business Group on Health as the recipient of the 2012 Global Leadership in Corporate Health Award.

The award honors the achievements of individuals who demonstrate excellence and leadership in implementing programs that improve the health and productivity of the workforce. Dr. Baase was recognized for her longstanding contributions to the field of health and productivity on a global basis. She has driven a global program at Dow that includes detailed metrics and continuous health improvement, and is regarded as one of the nation's top experts, paving the way and providing a model for others to follow.

'Dr. Baase leads a passionate team at Dow that shares a commitment to the bottom line impact of a healthy, high-performing workforce,' said Neil Hawkins, Dow's vice president of EH&S and Sustainability. 'She and her team achieve results by valuing individuals. Their policies and programs put the well-being and potential of our people as the top priority.'

'Dr. Baase was one of the early pioneers in workplace health and productivity management and has worked to not only advance health and wellness initiatives at Dow, but also has contributed greatly to the literature and scientific studies documenting the positive impact of quality workplace wellness programs,' said Barry Eisenberg, executive director of ACOEM.

'As a corporate medical director, Dr. Baase has been an inspiring leader, visionary and role model for the nation. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to honor her work and career,' said Helen Darling, president and CEO of the National Business Group on Health.

In combination with her role at Dow, Dr. Baase is active in a number of associations that underscore a shared interest in building healthy communities. She serves as chair for the Board of Directors of the Michigan Health Information Alliance (MiHIA), Inc. She is also active with the Partnership for Prevention, the Patient Centered Primary Care Collaborative and the ACOEM Health and Productivity Committee.

Earlier this year, Dr. Baase was honored with the 2012 President's Award from the Institute for Health and Productivity Management (IHPM). The IHPM was created in 1997 to establish the full value of employee health as an investment in workplace productivity and business performance. Dr. Baase was recognized for her outstanding leadership and innovation in this field.
