Atlanta Legal Nurse Consultant Attends SC AALNC Conference

Tue, 6 Mar 2012 11:00:00 EST

Atlanta, Georgia -- Atlanta legal nurse consultant Liz Buddenhagen traveled to attend the South Carolina American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants (AALNC) conference "Climb To Success" February 4, 2012 in Greenville, SC.

About Climb to Success:

Melisssa Gelineau, the current SC AALNC president welcomed the legal nurses and introduced Jenee Schrule of Case Map, a division of Lexis Nexis, who educated the nurses on using the Case Map software for creating medical chronologies.

Rob Koprowski, a Service Corp of Retired Executives (SCORE) business advisor, followed with "Starting and Building Your Business." Koprowski outlined common myths about having your own small business. "The myth that surprised me was that small businesses tend to decline at the 5 to 7 year marker," the Atlanta legal nurse Liz Buddenhagen commented. Conventional wisdom has been that if you make it 5 years, your business has a 90% success rate. Koprowski taught that studies have indicated entrepreneurs tend to get tired at the 5 to 7 year mark and sometimes fail to innovate when market conditions change, such as the recent recession, resulting in lower income at that time.

"Evaluating Pediatric Cases: They Are Not Little Adults" led off the afternoon program with Gyalia Rutledge, a board member of the Greater Augusta AALNC. Rutledge discussed pediatric cases related to sepsis, meningitis, and shock per Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) protocols and wrapped up with a short discourse on fetal monitoring.

Mari Cochran of "DIY Tech Geek" supplied the legal nurses with the latest technology tips. Cochran updated the legal nurses on Facebook for Business, Linkedin, Twitter, Word Press, cloud computing, paperless systems and smart phones. She urged legal nurses to incorporate the current technology into their businesses. Cochran's company provides classes for business owners on subjects from blogging to basic computing and Quickbooks.

Brooke Archenhold, attorney with Parham & Smith, and Ashby W. Davis, attorney with Davis and Snyder, presented "Medical Malpractice: The Dynamics of a Case!," to close out the day. Archenhold, a plaintiff's attorney, and Ashby, a defense attorney, have experience working against each other and discussed how legal nurses play roles in their firms.

About the SC AALNC:
