While symptoms may be similar, andropause is caused by a decline in the male hormone testosterone.  Depression in men may be caused by extreme stress, chronic illness, genetics, trauma or traumatic event.  While there are many other causes for depression in men, these can be some of the top contributors.

Andropause – so-named because testosterone is an androgen - results from the body's natural reduction in testosterone production after age 30.
