Gainesville, FL House Painter Saves Marriage With Sound Advice

Tue, 19 Jun 2012 13:07:01 EST

Gainesville, FL -- One of the first obstacles to painting one's home involves deciding which colors to use.  For some, this is almost a non-issue, and they'll go with a neutral, off-white shade.  The two most common tints are light tan and light gray.

But for other homeowners, picking a color is akin to choosing the name for their first born child.  It becomes a slow and meticulous process, fraught with angst and anguish.  And that's the ambuscade one local painting contractor in the Gainesville Florida area walked into recently.

Owners of Gainesville Home Services, Mark and Paul Myhre relate the story of one local couple who were just about ready to divorce themselves over which color to paint their house.

"The first time I walked into their living room, I knew this was going to be a challenge,' relates Mark, the older brother.  "Almost every square inch of every wall was painted in a slightly different shade of tan.  They'd applied dozens of paint samples.'

"The amazing part is that most of the shades were indistinguishable from each other,' Paul added.  "I had to look really closely to see the different tints in many of the samples, and I'm a painter!'

The tension in the room was palpable.  And this had been going on for several weeks.  But due to the similarities of the hues of the samples on the wall, paint color was clearly not the real issue for this troubled couple.

Mark, eager to flex his 'armchair psychology' muscle, took the husband aside to talk things over.  He explained what every painter knows: the wife chooses the color 90% of the time.  The smart husband will usually defer to his spouse's selection, whether he likes it or not.

Figuring he had nothing to lose, the elder Myhre probed deeper.  "You don't care about paint color,' he accused.  "What's really bothering you?'

Surprised by his directness, the shocked husband opened up.  All his frustrations and irritations came tumbling out.  And being simple creatures, this man's complaints echoed most men's complaints.  In other words, it was 'bedroom related'.

Being a romantic at heart, Myhre offered some helpful tips to not only save the marriage, but also win back the wife's affection.  "Make her feel special.  Give, without expecting anything in return.  Let her know you're thinking about her, and you care, in little ways.  Listen to her, and respect what she says.  And good grief, let her pick the color of the paint!'

After further explaining the benefits of these actions, a light bulb went off in the husband's head.  He realized he'd been neglecting his wife's needs, and thus she'd been neglecting his.  And someone had to step up to the plate to change things.

As it turned out, by the time the paint job was winding down, the couple's chemistry was heating up.  No longer were they at each other's throats.  All because they called the right Gainesville FL house painter.
