Shannon Factor and Cinespire Distribute Script for Ida Tarbell ¯ John D. Rockefeller Feature Film

Tue, 12 Jun 2012 10:13:40 EST

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Shannon Factor of Cinespire Entertainment, has announced the distribution of a script based on the life of Ida M. Tarbell, one of the most notable female authors and journalists of the twentieth century. The completed script is being circulated among various studios, production companies and executives, with the goal of securing financing for a major feature film.

As a fearless female reporter in the early 1900's, Ida Tarbell worked tirelessly to take on and expose the corruption of John D. Rockefeller and Standard Oil. Her 1904 book, 'The History of the Standard Oil Company,' would eventually become a best-seller; become the catalyst for antitrust actions by the United States Government; set the standards for antitrust laws and policies; and go on to become one of the most important books ever written by an American.

'Ida Tarbell was a groundbreaking figure in the field of investigative journalism and our script chronicles her unique story of bringing justice to the white collar crime world of corrupt business practices,' said Shannon Factor, writer, producer and founder of Cinespire. 'We expect strong interest in developing this into a full-length feature film as the issue is still relevant in today's post-Enron environment.'

Based on exhaustive historical research and public domain sources, Factor and her writing partner, Lex Hrabe, comprised a comprehensive film script that addresses various aspects of her life as a female pioneer who discovered that the lines of right and wrong are not always what they seem.

Piecing together information from her own factual evidence, Tarbell's reporting turned her into an archenemy of Rockefeller, America's first billionaire. Her compelling account of his business practices garnered a wave of public outcry that eventually lead to the breakup of Standard Oil, resulting in the creation of Chevron, Exxon, Mobile and many of the large oil companies that still exist today.

'The Rockefeller-Tarbell saga is an extremely compelling story, so during the course of our research, we were surprised to learn that it had not been turned into a feature film yet,' said Factor. 'We look forward to making that happen in the very near future.'
