Tue, 5 Jun 2012 12:24:40 EST Last month, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced they had accepted an advisory committee's recommendation to redefine the level of lead in children considered at risk for lead poisoning. The CDC's 'level of concern' has been reduced from 10 micrograms per deciliter to just 5.
This change will increase the number of children considered at risk to well over 400,000. The news has quickly caught the attention of medical professionals who deal with lead poisoning and environmental consultants who test and remove lead from homes, schools and other buildings.
Environmental professionals who specialize in determining lead levels in structures, and those who remove these hazardous materials, have a long history of working to keep children safe from this toxic metal. Many of these professionals turn to Legends Environmental Insurance Services to obtain their insurance coverage in order to offer these vital services.
'Lead is dangerous to everyone, but especially to children,' reported Brian Mcfarland, Vice President from Legends Environmental Insurance Services. 'Babies and young children regularly put their hands and other objects in their mouths which may contain lead dust on them from deteriorating lead-based paints commonly used before 1978. Children's growing bodies absorb more lead than adult bodies do, and their brains and nervous systems are more sensitive to the damaging effects of lead. Fortunately, there are highly qualified professionals that have dedicated their lives to identifying lead hazards and safely removing lead-based paints and materials from all types of structures where children and others reside,' he continued.
Legends recently sponsored an educational video about lead risks in the home that can be seen at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5UnRr0tj88
