A total of 15 teams will enter Super 15 Rugby with each having the exact same goal in common, and that's to advance to the final at the end of the season. Those squads are the Reds, Stormers, Crusaders, Blues, Waratahs, Sharks, Bulls, Highlanders, Hurricanes, Chiefs, Cheetahs, W.Force, Brumbies, Lions, and Rebels.

The tournament features teams from three different countries in South Africa, New Zealand and Australia with the season kicking off on February 24, and and coming to a close on August 4.

Queensland  enters the 2012 season as the defending champion and looking to win back to back titles. The Reds were able to advance to the final at the end of last year, and come away victorious over the Crusaders 18-13. The team will be without Quade Cooper who is expected to miss half of the regular season.

The Crusaders came up short in the final at the end of last season, and come in to 2012 as the seven-time champion. Kieran Read leads the squad which features several players from the All Blacks squad that won the Rugby World Cup just four short months ago.

With a team that will field 10 members from the New Zealand All Blacks, the Blues will be looking to bounce back from a semi-final loss to the Reds in 2011, and begin the season on a high note.

The Stormers have yet to win a Super 15 title, and enter this season with a host of talented players such as Robbie Fleck,  Percy Montgomery, Pieter Russouw, Dick Muir and Corne Krige. Last season the team came within one game of making it to the final before dropping a 29-10 loss to the Crusaders.
 
Injuries could play a key factor for the Waratahs as players such as Drew Mitchell, Dan Vickerman  and Rocky Elsom will begin the 2012 season on the sidelines. The team lost one of it's top players in Kurtley Beale, but were able to acquire Adam Ashley-Cooper in the offseason.
