New Software for Railroad Module Clubs

Wed, 18 Apr 2012 18:10:50 EST

CASTRO VALLEY, CA, April 18, 2012 -- The latest release from TrainPlayer Software provides methods for model railroad clubs to design and test-drive their modular layouts on the computer before setting them up on a show floor.

The new version 5.0 comes with a collection of sample NTrak and HO-scale modules in TrainPlayer format.  The user drags these one at a time into a new Module Manager dialog, where they snap together to form chains, loops, or branches.  The assembly can then be converted into a full operational layout, with all tracks automatically connected and ready to run trains.

"The Module Manager is a unique new tool for an NTrak club," says Peter Prunka, consultant and lead designer on the project.  "Members can create virtual replicas of their own modules, try them in different arrangements to get the best presentation at the show, then set up an operating plan and practice it at home.  There's no other system like it on the market."

TrainPlayer software has been in business since 2005, simulating the experience of model railroading on the computer.  The full package allows the user to design and draw track plans, create scenery, build and run trains, and realistically operate a railroad.  Users who don't care to create their own layouts can choose from several thousand pre-built plans downloadable from the company's website, where there are also large collections of train cars, scenery objects, and sounds.

The company has two levels of product, both for Windows only (XP, Vista, Windows 7): TrainPlayer ($59) allows creating and operating trains on pre-built layouts; TrackLayer ($99) includes all of TrainPlayer plus the ability to draw track and scenery and create modular layouts.  Products can be purchased on the company's website by credit card, for immediate download, or on DVD for an additional $10 shipping charge.  A free, full-featured demo of the system is available for a 30-day trial period.
