a 59-year-old father and his 2-year-old son were struck near Pinson Valley High School as they attempted to cross Highway 75 to reach their parked car. The child was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The father was airlifted to the hospital by a Life Saver Helicopter. The vehicle that struck the victims was driven by a 60-year-old, who did not see the victims crossing the highway. The driver was not injured in the accident.
