A Cottondale man who brought his infant son to a meeting with a prostitute has been charged with endangering a child. Derrick Matthew Boyd, 29, was arrested July 13. His 9-month-old son remains in DHR custody. The incident happened July 8 at a motel in Tuscaloosa. According to officials, Boyd and the prostitute began arguing over the price of the motel room and that's when the woman texted someone. There was a knock at the door and a man working with the woman entered the room and struggled with Boyd for his wallet. "The child was on the bed, he [the father] picked the child up, tried to leave, that's when he was shot at," Tuscaloosa Police Captain Loyd Baker stated earlier this month. The bullet grazed Boyd's head but police said soon after the incident that he would recover.
Officials said Boyd told them he couldn't find a babysitter so he brought his child with him. He met the woman through a website. There have been no other charges filed yet in the case.
