One look at Private First Class Julian Colvin's Facebook page today tells you a lot about how much this 21-year-old accomplished in such a short life. Family and friends posted hundreds of messages about how much of an impact he'd made in their lives. His commander, Lt. Col. Pete Levola said in a statement: "He is a shining example of the inspiration and promise of our young, remarkable paratroopers - a selfless hero who willingly took on one of the most difficult jobs in the brigade by leading patrols with a mine detector." Colvin was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division Based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He and another soldier were killed while on patrol in Kandahar, Afghanistan when an IED exploded. Colvin just joined the Army last March and in his short time earned several medals, including the bronze star and purple heart. On Colvin's Facebook page today, fellow soldiers dedicated the rest of their tours of duty to his memory. In a post that is now as sad as it is heartwarming, on June 24 his mom, who is also from Birmingham, told her son she was praying for he and his battlemates. Private First Class Julian Colvin was just 21 years old.
