The investigation into a possible bomb threat at a CVS pharmacy in Cahaba Heights has led police officers to surround a home in Irondale.
Birmingham and Irondale police departments are assisting Vestavia Hills police officers and the ATF at a home on Conway Lane in Irondale. The neighborhood has not yet been evacuated. Police say the scenes in Irondale and the Cahaba Heights CVS remain active.
Lieutenant Brian Gilham with Vestavia PD said officers received information from the crime scene at the CVS that led them to the home on Conway Lane.
Vestavia Hills police received a call around 10:30 a.m. Thursday reporting a suspicious package and a threatening note at the CVS on Cahaba Heights Road and Crosshaven Drive. The package was left inside the pharmacy.
Gilham said officers at the scene were trying to determine whether or not the package was a threat. The Hoover bomb squad was brought in to assist with the investigation. Vestavia officers have surveillance video from the pharmacy and are reviewing the footage to look for the suspect. The CVS has been evacuated and the area is blocked off. A robot was sent in to check out the suspicious package.
Vestavia Hills police said Thursday around 4 p.m. that they will soon open up Crosshaven Drive but the CVS pharmacy will remain closed for now. FBI officials remain on the scene.
