The state school board may soon make it more challenging to become a teacher in Alabama. The state board will meet in a work session Thursday, June 12 to discuss a proposal to change the way the state tests potential teachers before they can get their teaching certificate. State officials are proposing raising some of the passing scores on tests and adding some new elements to the tests to make sure school systems hire qualified candidates. However, some state board members say they're concerned the new testing could make it harder for professionals who don't have education degrees to switch into the education field.
