Exie Thomas, a resident in Roebuck, knew of the crime on her block. She said that there have been eight break-ins on the block, so she helps organize Violet Drive’s first block party.
The block party was created to allow neighbors to get to know each other and make the community stronger. During the summers in Birmingham, the crime rates rises. Thomas said it is very important that the neighbors know the area and who lives in the area.
