Fireworks, dry weather make potentially dangerous combination

Our weather is creating a situation that's had firefighters across the area worried for a while. Fireworks stands are popping up all over, making for a scary potential when combined with our hot, dry weather.

When you're picking up your Roman candles and bottle rockets, you don't want to forget something to light your fireworks. But, this year especially, you'll need one more thing: something to put out a fire.

For kids, fireworks shopping is almost as good as Christmas. Firefighters warn you could face an unpleasant surprise if you're not careful.

Really, it's leading up to be a pretty volatile situation with 100-degree weather this week. It could really put the topping on for the 4th of July.

Hot weather and dry fields and yards make the danger of fire high.

The soil is really dry, and it's not allowing the grass to grow very much.

Along with dry fields and yards, other areas vulnerable to stray sparks are rooftops made of wood.

Look for the neighbors that have the wooden shake shingles; that is a great concern.

So if you're one that loves this part of Independence Day, shoot your fireworks out in the open and have a plan.

Have a hose out there, a bucket of water, have a phone ready to call 911 in case something was to go wrong.

Taking some precautions could definitely make for a happier Independence Day finale.

Firefighters urge you not to hesitate to call 911 if you have a fire. And of course, check your local regulations before you shoot fireworks and make sure they're allowed.

Just use common sense, stay safe and have fun!
