Alabama State troopers have identified the victims in a fatal, three-vehicle accident on Highway 231 in St. Clair County late Tuesday morning. Two adults were killed in the accident, and another adult and a toddler were airlifted to local hospitals. A fifth person was involved, but not injured. According to the accident report, the incident happened at 11:35 a.m. on Highway 231 at milemarker 213.
Britany Melvin, 20 of Horton, and Christian Wood, 22 of Altoona, were killed. They were traveling in a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer with Mary Palecek, 25 of Odenville and a two-year-old boy. Palecek and the toddler were injured. Palecek was transported to UAB and the toddler was treated at Children's Hospital. Jose Rubio, 33 of Pasco, Washington was driving a 2000 Ford pick up truck. He was injured in the accident and transported to Trinity Hospital for treatment. Nicholas Meadows, 17 of Cropwell, was also involved in the accident but was not injured. He was driving a 1996 Saturn SC1. Troopers have still not released details on what exactly happened during the accident.
