People in Chelsea, feeling more at ease knowing a suspect is behind bars connected to the Elaine Gentry case. Her grandson, 24-year-old Daniel Scott Gentry, has been indicted for capital murder. According to Alacourt.com, Gentry has an extensive record dating back to 2007. It shows he's been charged with dozens of offenses from drug and burglary charges to domestic violence. The last thing Daniel Scott Gentry wrote on his Facebook was asking friends for prayers March 27th. Two days later he was in the Shelby County jail on a probation violation, the same day investigators say his grandmother.. a well known minister.. Elaine Gentry, was reported missing. The following month, her body was found in her car at the bottom of a Leeds quarry.
Daniel Scott Gentry has now been indicted for her murder. The news has shocked many people in Chelsea where the Gentry's lived. Tammy Trout says "Something like this happening was like whoa, I can't believe it did." Many neighbors are now asking how this could happen. Trout says "How could a relative do that?"
Daniel Scott Gentry lived in a house next to his grandmother's on the same property. Investigators say he broke into her house with intent to kill her. Nickie Gandy says the case has made her feel tense because it was close to home. She's glad a suspect has been charged. "People were just in shock something like that could happen here in this neck of the woods." Daniel Scott Gentry is in the Shelby County Jail without bond. He will be arraigned in 30 to 45 days.
