Emergency crews were called out to Spring Valley Beach water park in Blountsville just before 2pm Friday to assist a three year old child. A park employee stated that emergency crews were performing CPR on the child at the park. A Life Saver helicopter was dispatched to the water park to transport the child to Children's of Alabama. Travis Gilliland, a staff member at the water park says Sarah wasn't wearing any floaties and seven lifeguards were patroling the pool at the time. Gilliland says, "it's a large pool, it's a very large pool, but we have certified lifeguards on staff." A lifeguard was performing CPR on the three year old by the time Gilliland got there.
But the three year old wasn't responsive when Gilliland got there. Gilliland says, "She was spitting up a lot of water and that was pretty much all."
One witness stated that she will never forget the screams of the mother, and that either the child's father or grandfather collapsed. Moments later the child was airlifted to Children's of Alabama hospital with her mother by her side.
