Questions have been raised by Piedmont city councilmen about some city officials. According to The Anniston Star, Piedmont City Councilman Frank Cobb has questioned the qualifications and formal training of fire Chief Jimmy Trammell.
Piedmont city attorney Ron Allen said that Trammell is not technically a city employee. Allen told The Star that the law does require paid fire chiefs to have more training but Trammell, who says he has worked with the fire department since he was a teenager, is qualified as a volunteer fire chief.
Piedmont city councilman Kenny Kelley questions whether police Chief Steven Tidwell’s other job as an attorney presents a conflict of interest. Allen told The Star the city’s personnel code does allow city department heads to hold second jobs as long as they are approved by the city. The policy also states that the department head’s second job cannot present a conflict of interest with their city job. It will be up to the city administrator and possible the council to decide if Trammell’s second job presents a conflict of interest.
