Sylacauga Police have released more details about the city's first homicide of 2012. Police say 67-year-old Ray Fednander was found unresponsive on the porch of his home around 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29. Officials say he was assaulted with an edged weapon and beaten to death. A neighbor says Fednander whispered the name of his attacker before dying. He lived in the 600 block of Morris Avenue. Fednander was pronounced dead at the Coosa Valley Medical Center. Neighbors remembered him as an extremely generous and caring man. Friends said he always gave away money to people who needed help, and some believed it could have been his generosity that led to him being a target. "I do know he was a very good man, he'd give the shirt off his back. He's been a friend of my family all my life, family members were really close to him. He would help anybody, a total stranger, if they needed help, he'd help them," neighbor Kandy Williams said. Sylacauga Police say they have a person of interest in the case, but they have not released that person's name. Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Sylacauga Police Department at 256-245-4334.
