The governor’s Medicaid Advisory Committee on Wednesday recommended that Alabama’s Medicaid program be divided into about a dozen divisions across the state.
Birmingham Children’s Hospital CEO Mike Warren made the recommendation to the committee during a meeting Wednesday at the county health department in Montgomery. An Associated Press report says Warren’s recommendation was approved by an overwhelming voice vote.
State Health officer Don Williamson chairs the commission and said each division would manage its own program. Committee members say the division reflect the different needs in various parts of the state.
Williamson said it would most likely be 2015 before the new Medicaid structure would be in place.
