Winter weather will be moving into the area today and is expected to dump up to 4 inches of snow on parts of Calhoun County.
An upper-level low pressure system is moving across the Deep South. As temperatures across the state drop, much of the rain will quickly turn into snow as that low pressure system tracks along the I-20 corridor in the state.
Trained National Weather Service Storm Spotter Jarrett Pence says that counties west of Interstate 65 can expect the rain to develop into snow after noon on Thursday and that snowfall should continue until around 7:00 this evening. The heaviest snowfall in the state is expected to be in east-central Alabama, including the Anniston/Oxford area, and Pence warns that a slushy mix should be expected on bridges and overpasses in the area.
The National Weather Service gives Calhoun County a Hazardous Weather Outlook, with a Winter Weather Advisory until 7 p.m. and a Wind Advisory until 8 p.m.
