Members at Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church say Sunday was a new beginning for them. Interim Senior Pastor Dr. Bill Bostick preached his first sermon this past weekend, which church members say focused on bringing the congregation out of the darkness. It was just over a week ago when police say Senior Pastor Dr. Terry Greer shot his wife and daughter, killing his wife, Lisa. Police say Greer then stabbed himself. He faces murder and attempted murder charges.
And then a few weeks prior to the shooting, police say another church leader was arrested for soliciting a child for sex. While church members say it's been a tumultuous few weeks, they were happy to have something positive to focus on. This is Pastor Bostick's second stint at the church. He served there from 1979 to 1986.
