Birmingham Police are on the scene of a shooting at a retirement community in Pratt City. Police were called to Magnolia Terrace apartments on Avenue T just after 6 p.m. Firefighters forced their way into the apartment to find a female inside suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to UAB hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time. The suspect was also found in the same apartment and taken into custody without further incident. Charges are unknown at this time. Update: An elderly woman was shot in the chest by an elderly man inside a unit at the Magnolia Terrace Apartments for the Elderly. Both the gunman and the victim are residents at the complex and were involved in an altercation before the shooting. The man used an unknown type of revolver, which Birmingham Police officers have since recovered.
The female victim is in stable condition at UAB Hospital and is expected to survive.
