Woodlawn High School was on lockdown Thursday as a result of an incident that happened before school started. Birmingham City Schools Director of Communications, Michaelle Chapman, says a fight erupted between two boys. One of them pulled a gun. The student then put the gun in another student' backpack. When that student picked up the bag, she noticed that it was unusually heavy. The student took the back to a school resource officer, who searched it and found the gun. The gun is described as a .22 caliber handgun that had one bullet in the chamber. The students involved in the fight have been arrested by Birmingham Police. The students are suspended pending a hearing. Additional security is being provided at Woodlawn for the remainder of the day.
