The State of Alabama has requested the U.S. Department of Education freeze goals for yearly progress under "No Child Left Behind". Schools across the nation have been raising the bar every year to reach the 2014 goal of 100% proficiency in math and science. Alabama wants to freeze the goals for one year. State Superintendent Dr. Tommy Bice says it will give school systems a chance to pause and begin work on something bigger and greater.
