Alabama's health department says it has denied a company's application to operate a Birmingham abortion clinic that's now slated for closing.
A company called Ochata Management had applied to run New Woman All Women Health Care, which has agreed to shut down next month after being cited for health violations. But the state said Monday it's denying the permit application. A statement from the agency explaining the decision cites ties between the clinic's current owner and the company that planned to take over the clinic. A group that opposes abortion raised concerns about those ties in a letter sent to the Alabama Department of Public Health last week. The clinic is the same one that was bombed by Eric Rudolph in 1998. A Birmingham police office died in the blast.
