A Calhoun County woman was killed and two others injured in an early morning house fire on Wednesday. Now, a man and a 3-year-old child are recovering at hospitals.
The fire started around 3:30 a.m. on Parker Boulevard in Weaver. According to the Weaver Police Department; a 57-year-old man, a 75-year-old woman and a 3-year-old child were inside at the time.
When police and fire crews arrived the home was engulfed in flames. All three people inside were taken out. The woman had died by the time she was pulled from the home.
A neighbor, Thomas Odom says his wife woke him up after smelling the smoke from the fire. He and his son went next door to try and help the family before fire crews arrived. They tried kicking in the front door and getting in through a window. Both attempts failed. Odom says it was very frustrating and terrifying because he could see the family including the 3-year-old inside of the house as he tried to rescue them.
"I was scared to death because there was a little bitty kid. When they brought him out I didn't think he would make it, but he did and they airlifted him to UAB or wherever he went," said Odom.
The grandson was taken by ambulance to Children's Hospital in Birmingham. Both are said to be in stable condition. The names are not being released at this time and the cause is under investigation.
