A University of Alabama football player is said to be injured after being involved in a fight on Tuscaloosa Boulevard. A person familiar with the situation has confirmed that Crimson Tide wide receiver DeAndrew White, 20, was injured in the fight and transported to DCH with non-life-threatening injuries. Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide Unit commander Loyd Baker says a physical altercation happened around 2:10 a.m. in the 1200 block of University Boulevard. No weapons were involved in the fight.
During the altercation, two males who were not involved in the fight pulled handguns and fired into the air. It is believed that they were trying to disperse the crowd. They were taken into custody and both firearms were recovered.
A second victim, a 31-year-old male, was found lying unconscious on the sidewalk in the 1300 block of University Boulevard with serious head injuries. Investigators have not discovered if he was injured in the fight, but they say he was not injured by the firearms.
Twenty-two-year-old Ryan Javaris Hamilton and 22-year-old Quamayne Rakesh Tolbert were both charged with Reckless Endangerment for discharging the firearms.
A campus security message sent last night warned of shots fired. Students and employees were asked to take precaution. A spokesman for the University of Alabama says the two suspects were not students
