The State House has approved a bill giving school more flexibility with their schedules. The bill lets systems start the school year later, and extend summer vacations. It works by eliminating the mandate that students attend class for 180 days each school year. That's replaced by a requirement that they attend class for 1080 hours each year. It would let school systems have longer days, but be in session for fewer days. The sponsor says it could boost tax money coming into the state by lengthening summer vacation. The bill now goes to the Senate for debate
