Lawmakers in Montgomery are now one step closer to saving the Prepaid Affordable College Tuition program, known as PACT. A House committee has approved a bill that could keep PACT running. The bill addresses issues raised by the state Supreme Court when it struck down a settlement in a lawsuit over PACT. The settlement had called for the plan to pay tuition at 2010 levels. Supreme Court justices say that violated a law stating PACT had to provide funding at current levels. The new PACT bill is expected to come up for a vote in the full House next week.
