Calhoun County's newest deputy has one fo the most dangerous assignments. "Two-Paw," is a black lab spefically trained to sniff out bombs which is a big, and ever-changing demand for the department. "If we have a school bomb threat, a courthouse bomb threat or some other facility, that dog can cover that facility and we will know whether or not there's an explosive there without actually having to manually handle everything, which is not what you want to do in a bomb situation," Sheriff Larry Amerson said. The Sheriff's Office received "Two-Paw" from the Auburn University Canine School, which has a campus in Anniston.
In fact, Sheriff Amerson says the dog came free of charge. The only cost was the man hours spent training "Two-Paw's" handler, Brad Bowdoin. Still, the sheriff says "Two-Paw's" value to the department is priceless.
