A 7 year old girl was killed yesterday after she was hit by a truck. The girl, her 28 year old mother and a 2 year old child were walking on the shoulder of 5th Street in Northport near Kentuck Park after the airshow when a black 2008 GMC Sierra pickup struck the mother and her children. The drive of the vehicle, Danny Ray Smith was arrested by Northport Police for DUI. Smith had been at his business near the airport hosting a gathering of people watching the airshow. The victims were transported to DCH. The 7 year girl died at the hospital. Her mother is currently in ICU, and the 2 year old was transported to Children's Hospital. Danny Ray Smith has been charged with Vehicular Homicide, Leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and 2 counts of Assault 1st degree. Smith is in the Tuscaloosa County Jail under a $106,000.00 bond.
