"The choking game", make yourself and your children aware!

Thursday, March 15, 2012

Many of our Pamela's Place listeners will remember a show that I did about "the choking game", and the interview that I did with a Talladega woman who's 10 yr. old son didn't survive. She found her sons lifeless body hanging in his closet, he had passed out before he was able to release the belt from his neck. He passed away within a matter of seconds.

I'm sad to say that this "game" is still as popular among kids and teenagers as ever, they are not considering the risk they are taking, and we as parents, educators, friends, etc.... must take a stand and make people aware of this "choking game" and it's deadly grasp on our kids.

It's become YouTube sensations among teenagers.

Below is just another testimonial of what this deadly "game" is doing to our kids. Teenager, Derek Gall, recalls, "I looked it up on YouTube, I guess and guess I didn't think that it was true and wanted to try it out for myself.

Videos of teenagers choking each other or themselves until they pass out.

What's known as the "choking game," is supposed to initiate a euphoric, temporary high and light–headed sensation. But for sophomore, Derek Gall, of Randolph, Nebraska, it left him in serious condition.

Derek's Mother, Jean, says, "And then later it was found that he had been upright when he passed out and had hit his head. He had been complaining of head pain and had vomited up blood and was having some nosebleeds." Derek had suffered a severe concussion, a ruptured eardrum and a fractured skull, which was actually a good thing. The break allowed blood in his head to drain and to keep pressure away from his brain.

Derek was blessed to survive. He says he's "lucky", however I personally don't believe in "luck", I believe in blessings from God.

He says, "I'm lucky dude to how the break could have been much worse. I could have completely torn the nerve for the right side of my face." Not only that, he has his life.

It was a lesson, Derek says, he wishes he never had to learn.

Jean says, "By no means is he in trouble for doing it..." And that's why the Gall's, pushing all pride aside, are using their example to educate teens, parents and communities.

Jean adds, "We just want to try to make something positive out of something negative." Like the high price that comes, with such an unfair game.

Wednesday was Derek's first day back to school since last Thursday. That's when the incident took place.

He's recovering slowly, sleeping a lot, and still has frequent headaches, but all in all, he'll come out of this, just fine.

Thank God that Derek survived! There are so many that do not.

I encourage eachof you to research this and make others aware. One link that you can visit is: http://www.ChokingGame.net

Please inform your children of the risk and deadly effect of "the choking game". It could save the life of someone you love!

God Bless!
