There's new growth on the poisoned oak trees at Auburn University, but an expert says the Toomer's oaks aren't yet out of the woods. Auburn horticulturist Gary Keever says the unseasonably warm winter is forcing the trees' metabolism to accelerate. He says the new growth is "encouraging." But he says it doesn't mean the trees are going to survive. Keever says experts should be able to definitively gauge the health of the trees this spring. The school plans to replace the trees if they eventually die.
