Copper thieves in Anniston were at it again Tuesday.
Three air conditioning units and an unknown amount of copper wire were stolen from Anniston General Surgery Center on Leighton Avenue sometime Tuesday morning, according to police reports.
Sgt. Josh Doggrell said Anniston police responded to a call around 6 a.m. from a resident who heard a loud noise and reported a possible theft in progress. When police arrived, no suspect was on the scene.
Police estimated a total of $7,500 in stolen property and $100 in damage.
Doggrell said Tuesday he doesn’t know if the crime is related to other copper thefts in the area. Due to the high volume of similar crimes in recent months, police have created a special detail to investigate copper and metal thefts.
