GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich is set to spend part of Super Tuesday here in Alabama. He will kick off a week of campaigning in the state with an event in Huntsville today.
Over the next week, we could see an increase in visits from other candidates as next Tuesday nears. Even though Alabama is not a part of this Super Tuesday, the state is still on some candidates radars.
Gingrich already plans on spending part of Tuesday in Huntsville and over the next week, he will also appear in Montgomery, Pell City and take a tour of the Cancer Center at UAB.
Newt Gingrich is not the only candidate giving Alabama some attention. Rick Santorum is expected to launch a major advertising campaign here this week.
UAB Communications Professor Larry Powell says any more attention Alabama could get depends on the outcome of today's primaries. He says if Mitt Romney sets himself apart, many more candidates will likely visit.
"The bigger the role Alabama has, the more presidential candidates we will get, maybe some people representing them, maybe some family members," said Powell. Alabama's primary is March 13th.
