A relative of one of the suspects in the Savannah Hardin murder case responded to the events surrounding Savannah's death. The relative spoke on behalf of the family and asked to not be identified. The family member stated: "We are disgusted and ashamed by the events that have taken place. We do not and did not agree with the way Savannah was punished. Joyce did love her but she took the punishment to the extreme. I myself am just outraged by all that has taken place. There is no excuse for what she has done." Joyce Garrard and Jessica Hardin have been charged with murder in the death of nine-year-old Savannah Hardin. Garrard was the girl's paternal grandmother and Jessica Hardin was Savannah's stepmother. Authorities say the child was "run to death" as punishment for eating candy. Savannah allegedly was forced to run for three hours around the Hardin family home before she collapsed and began to have seizures on Friday, Feb. 17. She died on Monday, Feb. 20 at a hospital in Birmingham. Her preliminary autopsy reports showed that she was severely dehydrated at the time of her death.
