- On Tuesday, Feb. 21, LaTonya Stearnes, a Birmingham mother whose two daughters were sprayed with Mace by police officers at school, will join the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), Greater Birmingham Ministries, and the Birmingham Chapter of the American Federation of Teachers at a press conference calling for the Birmingham Police Department to stop using Mace on students.
After the press conference, the group will urge city officials at the Birmingham City Council meeting to address the issue. The press conference will be at Linn Park at 8:45 a.m. The city council meeting is at 9:30 a.m.
