Officials have released more details about the wife of the Ashland police chief who is charged with attempted murder. Authorities say Felecia Davis shot her husband, Ashland Police Chief Benny Davis, on Feb. 2, leaving him with critical injuries. While a motive has still not been released, court documents show that a 9 mm handgun was used in the shooting. Also, shortly after being arrested, Felecia Davis filed an affidavit of substantial hardship and order. That's what defendants ask when they're asking the courts to appoint them an attorney. According to that affidavit, Felecia Davis has been employed by the Alabama National Guard for two years. She earns about $200 a month, but has more than $1,300 in monthly expenses. The court denied her request, saying it does not find her to be indigent, so she will have to pay for her own attorney. When she was first arrested, Felecia Davis was held in the Randolph County Jail because at one time, she worked for the jail in Clay County, where the shooting happened.
She has now been moved to the Coosa County Detention Center because Clay County and Coosa County are in the same judicial circuits. Chief Benny Davis still remains in critical condition at UAB Hospital.
