An electronic intrusion on the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center’s public website has sparked a criminal investigation by the state’s Department of Homeland Security.
The Criminal Justice Information Center is the agency responsible for gathering and providing information to law enforcement and criminal justice personnel around the country. WSFA-TV reports that confidential bank information was posted on the ACJIC website during the Super Bowl on Sunday.
The ACJIC released a statement on Tuesday confirming that the unauthorized posting of a document was made on its public website. The agency says no personally identifiable information is stored on the site, but details regarding the document were not immediately known.
The attack is the second in several weks on critical infrastructure of state government computer systems, though there is no direct link that the two attacks are connected. The state department of Homeland Security is also investigating the January cyber-intrusion of the Alabama Information Services Division which is part of the Department of Finance.
