The city of Weaver hopes renovations to a city park can become a gateway to the city for people using the Chief Ladiga Trail.
The Anniston Star reports city officials will soon begin work at Raymond C. Elwell Park to make the recreation area more accessible from the trail between Jacksonville and Anniston. Mayor Wayne Willis hopes to begin work next week clearing trees from the area in the first stages of renovations.
City officials tell The Star that this would be the biggest renovations to the Weaver park since the 1980s. The second stage of renovations would see an additional pavilion and updated playground equipment but depends on the city securing a $1 million bond.
