Authorities on Monday released the name 50-year-old Anthony Scott Brown, who was shot and killed after allegedly threatening police at a strip-mall on Snow Street in Oxford.
The Anniston Star reports Brown was seen in the area before the shooting. A passerby recognized Brown as the suspect who had recently burglarized a home and called police around noon on Friday. Oxford police canvassed the area and found Brown inside a phone repair store across from the Quintard Mall.
Two officers approached the suspect but were threatened with a knife. Oxford Police Chief Bill Partridge told The Star that the officers responded with a taser gun but Brown was not affected. Police then fired their guns at the suspect, shooting and killing Brown inside the store. No other injuries were reported.
Brown reportedly had two separate warrants for his arrest stemming from incidents earlier this month. Since an officer was involved in the fatal shooting, the ABI is investigating Friday’s incident.
