The University of Alabama won the BCS National Championship, which means they get that beautiful crystal trophy. However, the team isn't the only ones allowed near it. You can get up close and personal to the big, sparkling football. The Coaches' Trophy presented by Dr Pepper will be on display this weekend at two locations in Alabama. Fans will be able to have a free on-line photo taken with the actual Waterford® Crystal football trophy won by the Crimson Tide at the Discover BCS National Championship.
Friday, January 11th, the trophy will be on tour at the Walmart location on Skyland Boulevard in Tuscaloosa. The trophy event starts at 4:00 p.m. and you can have your picture taken with the trophy until 8:00. Saturday, January 12th, it will be at the Academy Sports and Outdoors on Doug Baker Boulevard in the Village at Lee Branch from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Just a few details to note about that trophy, the Coaches' Trophy is 34 inches tall and weighs 45 pounds. The ball alone weighs approximately eight pounds. Every year, a new trophy is made. Each winning school keeps The Coaches' Trophy for permanent display on campus. It was created in 1986. This is the 27th year the American Football Coaches Association has awarded the trophy to the national champion.
