Birmingham Police and Fire worked a fatal accident on Jefferson Avenue Sunday after a truck wrecked on the 24th Street SW overpass, nearly going over the side. Sgt. Johnny Williams confirmed that one person has died from injuries sustained in the accident that happened around 12:30 p.m. It is unknown at this time if anyone else was inside the truck. We will continue to follow this story and provide updates as information is made available. Update: Sgt. Johnny William reports that two people have died in an accident on Jefferson Avenue. A mother and child were killed in the single-vehicle wreck on the 24th Street SW overpass. The driver of the vehicle, the husband and father of the victims, was the lone survivor. It is unknown at this time if the man sustained injuries during the incident.
