People in Oxford are going to bat for a Heflin police officer who is recovering from a gunshot wound. A softball tournament is underway to raise money for Officer Jackie Stovall at Oxford Lake Softball Fields. 12 teams played, and the top two will compete in the championship game around 6:45 p.m. There was a moment of silence at 11:01 a.m.. That was the time Stovall was shot in a police chase in Oxford last month during which the suspect was killed. Stovall is currently in rehab.
All of the tournament proceeds will help pay his medical bills. The chase began in Heflin after several people were found shot inside a trailer home. It continued to Oxford where Stovall was shot. The suspect was later killed by the Oxford SWAT Team.
