About 30 percent of Alabama is still suffering drought conditions according to the US Drought Monitor. The driest areas of the state are just south of Calhoun County, with large portions of Clay and Randolph counties suffering from exceptional drought for at least two weeks. Conditions across the state have improved since the beginning of the year when more than 60 percent of Alabama was classified as abnormally dry and nearly half was classified as experiencing moderate drought conditions or worse.Farmers in the state have not experienced a great impact from the drought though some have been forced to use supplies set aside for the winter. Most of Calhoun County was classified last week as experiencing moderate drought conditions.
