The second officer wounded in a Baldwin County shooting last Friday was reported in fair condition in a south Alabama hospital yesterday as authorities continue to investigate the deaths of a deputy and a suspect. Deputy Curtis Summerlin underwent two surgeries over the weekend for bullet wounds to his arm and leg which he received after responding to a call at a Fairhope home. The ATF is trying to determine how Michael Jansen obtained the 9mm handgun used in Friday’s shooting which left Deputy Scott Ward dead and Summerlin critically injured. Jansen was committed to a mental institution in 2010 and police are trying to figure out how he was able to acquire the gun since federal law prohibits firearm ownership for people who have been committed. The funeral for Scott Ward is scheduled for today in Fairhope.
