The momentum UAB had developed with back-to-back wins over the past two weeks evaporated at Legion Field on Saturday after Memphis throttled the Blazers 46-9. The Tigers overwhelmed UAB early and often, racing out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter before entering halftime holding a 28-3 lead that was never threatened. Quarterback Jacob Karam was nearly perfect on the day, throwing for three touchdowns on 14-of-16 passing and 147 yards. His running back, Brandon Hayes, added three more touchdowns on the ground in the win, and finished the day with 127 yards rushing on 19 carries. UAB running back Darrin Reaves came in to Saturday's game on a roll after rushing for 573 yards and seven touchdowns in the previous three games, but Memphis stymied the Blazers' ground game, holding them to just 26 yards. Reaves could only muster 38 yards on 13 carries in the loss. With the win, Memphis takes back the Bones Trophy.
UAB falls to 3-8 on the year and 2-5 in Conference USA. They will travel to play C-USA East Division leader Central Florida (6-1, 8-3) next week in the season finale.
